Tough Guy

Everybody in the Malawian village of Zolokere calls Lameck Khunga by his nickname - Tough Guy. His mother gave birth to him out of wedlock when she was a teenager and when she married a different man a few years later, Lameck was not allowed to move with her to a nearby village. According to the traditional social values in the Zolokere area, to do so would cast shame on her new husband. So Lameck was raised by his grandmother with an occasional visit to his mother's village. This photo was taken in September of 2008 when Lemeck was fourteen years old. He wants to be a mechanic or driver when he gets older.
